why do south americans and mexicans hate the hispanics of pure native american heritage?
Hate is a strong word…but, in some places in Latin America the term “Indio” (Indian) is a bit of an insult.
It is really a holdover from caste system used by the Spaniards. Although, many people in Latin American have a certain percentage of indigenous blood, the mainstream culture is a hybrid one and based on the colonial model – European blood being on top of the social ladder and the full blood tribal indians on the bottom…with a full spectrum or hiearchy in between.
I would also disagree with the wording of your question…”hispanics of pure Native American heritage”…if they are of PURE Native American heritage, then why the “Hispanic” label? A Mixtecan speaking Indian…or a Tarahumara would be considered “Hispanic”…um, how?
